I've already upgraded my power supply to a 500w unit, so I have a bit more room to work with there. I'm using a 1920x1080 monitor. Budget is roughly $120.

With that being said, I tried buying an MSI Geforce 750 TI and the card probably not compatible with my system's BIOS (thread here: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2929409/monitor-display-installing-graphics-card.html). Gateway doesn't seem to offer a UEFI upgrade for Windows 7 on my model. I've since returned the card for a refund.

I emailed EVGA about their Geforce 750 TI, and this is the response I got:

"The card is a fully UEFI compatible card and fully UEFI compatible cards do work with older non-UEFI based motherboards however not all motherboards will work with the newer cards, even if they support UEFI. Due to this sometimes the motherboard requires a BIOS update to allow it to work. As our GTX 750 Ti would have the same basic functionality and compatibility issues as the MSI GTX 750 Ti due to sharing the Nvidia GTX 750 Ti chipset it would not work in your system either. I apologize for any inconvenience."

That's about it basically. Asking for recommendations here because I want to make sure that the next card I buy is compatible. My gaming needs are fairly light. I'm interested in buying a card so I can play the upcoming Dark Souls 3.

No one will be able to guarantee any card will work, as the problem is with your motherboard/bios, not the cards.

Older Generation cards seem to still work, so you can try and a 660/660 ti on the used market and that could work?
