My specs...

I7-4770k
Zotac 980 Ti Amp Extreme
G Skill 8GB RAM
Corsair 850W power supply
ASUS Maximus VI Hero motherboard
Corsair Obsidian 750 D computer case

---

I have come into a good chunk of change recently, and I am looking for thoughts on getting another GPU for my computer. I don't know too much about it, so I'll be looking into information elsewhere as well.

But do I have the room? The power supply? I can get the card for $620, so price isn't too huge of a deal if the benefits are worth it.

I play ALL my games at 1440p and I have G-Sync on my monitor, which displays 144hz.

I would love the boost, but I'm wondering if there's any work associated in SLIing my system and if the benefits would be worth it.

Thank you very much for any information you can give me. I'm eager to consider what you guys have to say.

Solution
Yes, If you are playing @ 1440p 144hz then you will want a second 980ti. Your motherboard, PSU, and case can fit the extra GPU no problem.

The second 980 will really wake up those games @ 1440p, ultra settings are in your future :)

The only thing you may want to check which Corsair PSU model you have. If it is a CX series, those are not considered to be reliable due to low quality capacitors that can burn out under load. It would be smart to replace it with a higher quality unit.

No. You should save your money for retirement.

Also you should start playing games in 8 bit - it was good enough for me back in the 80's and it's good enough for you too. 1440p is just showing off.

And another thing - you should spend more time with your family....darned video games gonna ruin yur brain.

Thank you for being constructive. Do you have any personal suggestions as to PSUs that are "high quality" or that would be worth checking out?

I sure do. I can personally vouch for Seasonic Power Supply Units. They use high quality components that are designed to last. They have stellar customer service and their Product warranties often times last up to 10 years. The First two units I linked are currently in both of my rigs. Depending on your budget of course.

Or if you are looking for a high quality unit under $150

XFX is made by Seasonic

The card uses 258w, but 600w is recommended. What wattage would be the best to have, and what would be overkill?

850 watt is around minimum I would go...some say 750 but I wouldn't take the risk since you're buying one, just go 850 and up...I have xfx, it's seasonic parts and is great but any of those he put up are good. Corsair ax series is great also, as well as evga G supernova.

Don't mind people whining about spending another $650. It will be worth it if you plan on staying with your current monitor for the next few years. If you plan on going 4K within a year or year and a half, maybe wait it out till the new cards come out...the flagships for Pascal and AMD should push well above 60fps 4K in sli, plus the higher refresh 4K monitors this year and going forward.

It's not my plan to push 4K any time in the foreseeable future. So I'll stay this course. Thanks much for helping me out.

And don't worry about other people. I don't mind the peasants.
