Battery Operated GPS Device

I was wondering if it would be possible to make my own battery operated GPS receiving device. I wanted to to be small, similar to the size of a usb drive. the other thing would be, if possible where would i find parts for something like this. thanks.

There are manufacturers that have single chip GPS receivers -- https://www.maximintegrated.com/en/products/comms/wireless-rf/MAX2769.html You would use something like that to build a GPS.
