My turn to make a thread, yay!

So I bought 2 x 27'' 1080p Acer monitors yesterday. I arrived home and realised they only had VGA cables included with them. First of all, I think that's a weird move on Acer's end, because VGA lost their appeal when we moved away from CRTs, but anyway. My GTX 970 doesn't have any VGA ports and only has 1 HDMI output. I had a DVI cable lying around so I used it coupled with an HDMI, thinking the latter would look better or the same.

To my surprise, the DVI one seem to have pure blacks and whites, while the HDMI one looks like it has some sort of filter on it, making blacks and whites kind of greyish. I played with the settings like contrast, color saturation and all that for about 2 hours, but I failed to replicate the results I got on the DVI monitor. They are both the exact same monitors, with the same settings.

I don't know how it'll look on the link, so I hope you guys can see what I mean.

My set-up

PS, the snow and the clouds are where it is mostly apparent.

Is that normal though? I'm puzzled.

Solution
Nvidia defaults to limited rgb on hdmi because some reason they assume it's a tv but then even tvs are decent enough nowadays. In the nvidia control panel, go to change res and set output dynamic range to full.

The cable is a DVI-D, Dual-link, since it fits in both slots of my GTX970 (which has one of both). If I'm correct, DVI-I receives all and DVI-D plugs can only receive DVI-D. I also don't have a DVI adaptor, only a DVI to DVI cable and an HDMI to HDMI cable. Sorry if that part was confusing. Both signals are digital and should show the same. I did notice something that I forgot to mention though. In the Nvidia control panel, the monitor connected via DVI is recognized as a monitor, while the one connected via HDMI is identified as an HDTV.

HAHA! You answered my question while I was replying to the last comment! I'm still at work at the moment, but I'll be home in about 90 minutes, and I'll check that answer and provide more details.
