Hello all,

I recently purchased and installed an asus m5a99fx motherboard along with an fx 9370 processor and a corsair h60 to keep it all cool. Upon booting, windows will try to start and fail. I already flashed the BIOS to the newest version, no dice. I'd like to know if there is a way to fix this without reinstalling windows as I don't have the install disk. After checking over the list about what to do in case of boot failure, I don't see anything that I changed before the old cpu (which worked) was removed.

As a side note, the h60 seems to be having some issues, even after applying new arctic ceramique to the coldplate it still ramps up to insane speeds, making me worry about temperatures up to 56 celsius without even starting windows. I don't have a lot of disposable income so any advice about a fix would be much appreciated.

Info:
Motherboard: Asus m5a99fx pro 2.0
Cpu: AMD fx 9370
GPU: radeon HD 7790
Psu: corsair cx850m

Solution
You need to install windows from scratch with a different MB. The boot drive has the old board's drivers and configuration files which probably are not compatible with the new MB.

You do not always have to re install but its a good idea. Find the SATA controller settings and see if its set to IDE or AHCI. If it is on IDE, change it to AHCI and vice versa. AHCI is preferable but if the old motherboard was set to IDE, windows will not boot unless the new board is set to IDE.

If you do a fresh install, make sure AHCI is turned on.

Alright thanks for the advice, I'll repair windows by I guess borrowing a disk from work.

However, if I can't resolve the cooler problem I won't be able to do that before it overheats. Any thoughts? The manual said to plug it into any 3 or 4 pin socket, (there are 2 connectors, one from the block and one from the fan) and I plugged them into the CPU_fan and CPU_opt. Is that wrong?
