Setting up a wired connection.

So I have a wifi connection but I want to set up a wired connection for my desktop. The problem is that the modem is downstairs and my computer is upstairs. I was wondering if I can set up two modems in one house or something. PS. this is my first time setting anything like this up. Please help.

2 modems, no. The ISP talks to one and only one 'modem'.

Solutions?
1. Run a cat5e from the modem/router to your PC
2. Powerline devices. This connects to the modem/router at one end, and your PC at the other end. In between, there is the house wiring
3. MOCA devices. Similar to powerline, but pumps the signal through the house coax, if it already exists.

The modem that we have downstairs is a Arris. It is sitting in a little box and the is a hole in the wall where the cables are being run up to where the wireless router is.

OK...and what ports are available on the back of the TimeCapsule?
How far is that from your PC? What is in between?
How is the TimeCapsule connected to the Arris modem?

None and I don't think the wireless router is connected to the modem. A blue cable is connected to a MAC and the others are connected in ports in the wall.

Like there are three boxs on the wall that say 10/100Mbps 8-port Ethernet Switch and it looks like the are running upstairs. One of the ports is empty.

Given eyeballs on the site, any reasonable network person could diagnose this and recommend in about 20 minutes.
Since I can't actually see your house, it is difficult.

Apple TimeCapsule WiFi thingy

1. You need a new switch. 10/100/1000.
2. Apparently, the switch connects to other wall ports in the house. Probably to the Apple TimeCapsule as well.
3. Is there an RJ-45 port that connects to that switch, and is near where you need it?
