Planning to buy gtx970 but my motherboard has pcie 16x 1.0 ? Can gtx970 run on it

The fact that it is PCIe ver. 1.0 won't matter. PCIe is a backward compatible interface. But if the motherboard is old enough to be ver. 1.0, its older legacy BIOS may not recognize the newer UEFI BIOS of the GTX 960. Not usually a problem, but it does happen from time to time. You won't know for sure until you try it.
