Is the Intel Core i5 2500 (NON-K) still worth getting?

Solution
Ah see. Well it looks like you're investing in used hardware which is fine. The killer here is that $230 also includes a Windows Key (if necessary) and a PSU. Typically, you want to buy all components at the same time in case you receive DOAs (dead on arrivals). If you're comfortable with it, yes the 2500 is still a decent CPU. But remember, you're investing in older tech that's used. Make sure you're able to return the item if it faulty.

I don't have the motherboard and the actual CPU yet. Should I buy it and the mobo?

No. There's little reason to invest in 5 year old technology. If the budget is tight, you simply wait until the budget is larger for newer hardware.

What components do you have?
What is the purpose of the build?
What is your budget?

FYI, a new motherboard my require purchasing a Windows Key.

My budget is 230 dollars and will most likely be using it for gaming on 1080p like BF3 On high maybe/ BF4 on Medium, csgo e.t.c. Will upgrade the GPU later I just want a cpu right now so I can have a pc I'm getting quite desperate lol.
