Hi just wondering whether i could overclock my processor to maybe 4.2-4.4ghz on the stock cooler as currently under load im barely hitting 60c

Solution
I don't see why you shouldn't be able overclock it a few .1's with a stock speed of 3.9 going to 4.2 would only be a 0.3ghz increase however this can bring high temperature increases, I recommend increase it by .1ghz and stress test it for 15 minutes to check the temps until your temps are rising to around 70-80, it is not a great idea to run processors at too higher temperature as it reduces their life span however if you are trying to squeeze more power out of you chip then you should be okay. I would however recommend upgrading to a better cooler in the future to keep those temps down

Well the problem is the factory Heat sink coolers are really not meant to be used in overclocking thus they get hotter then the cpu throttles back and then your performance suffers from this.. Over clocking is like the lottery some win big some loose your mileage varys from chip to chip.

Yes I forgot to mention this, if you push you r chip high you can suffer from thermal throttling and not only will this worsen your performance but will also effect the life span of your cpu and also he is very right in the fact that factory heatsinks are not made for overclocking however you can get away with it

I was checking the speed it was currently hitting and it was around the 4-4.2ghz range as turbo core was enabled and it was only getting 60c on that under load from Fallout 4 for a few hours, Thanks for the reply by the way

I think i'll probably stick with turbo core enabled until I get an aftermarket cooler, do you reckon a hyper 212 evo would be a good choice?
