Hi everyone,

I'm brand new to the forums here and want to thank everyone in advance for your help. I was recently given a few Seagate 7200.12 Barracuda 1 TB hard drives and decided to move my Origin games from my WDD Caviar Blue to it as I was running out of room. Long story short, I've tried 2 Barracudas and neither will work for different reasons. The second one has me guessing though. I did everything as far as installing, formatting, etc. Moved my games and everything. This drive writes fast on data transfer and functions normally. Whenever I go to play a game though I'm lucky to get 30 seconds in to the game before I have a hard freeze... I went in and changed the settings for hard drive idle and set it to "never", I've tried different ports and known to work SATA cables... I've "repaired" Battlefield 4.... I'm stumped.

Specs.

M5A99 EVO R2.0 MOBO

AMD FX9590 4.7 Ghz (No OC, Corsair liquid cooler)

2x XFX R9 270x in Xfire

1 TB Seagate HDD, 500 GB WDD Caviar Blue, 1 TB Seagate Barracuda

8 GB RipJaws DDR3 RAM

850W Thermaltake PSU

Hey thanks for the quick response.... I found out it wasn't the HDD.... The reason I suspected that it was was because the previous one I just tried was faulty. What really happened was when I went to my BIOS between Barracuda 1 failing and installing Barracuda 2, I accidentally set my computer to performance.... which put my CPU at 5.15 GhZ, and games were freezing due to that massive OC.
Hey there, aduncan282! Welcome to the community! :D

Go ahead and give that drive a go with another computer, to see if the issue persists. You should also backup any important data which you might have on it, just to be on the safe side. After that I'd recommend that you download the HDD manufacturer's diagnostic tool and test the drive with it, to see if anything unusual pops-up.

Please let me know how it goes.
