Hi,

I want to keep my devices synced without using the internet. I want to be able to sync my devices when I'm far away from any data connection. I travel a lot. But in a lot of countries the internet goes really slow or not at all. So I'm searching for a way to keep my devices synced without using the internet, this means no dropbox or onedrive.I want to sync my pictures and some useful files. I've been searching the net for quite some time now for this problem. I always travel with 3 devices. My tablet(android), my phone(android) and my laptop(windows 7). Can you use bluetooth? Only downside is it goes so slow. Is it possible to sync using 1 of my devices by creating a local network? What apps can I use for this?

I hope I was clear enough in my description.

Solution
Why can't you just connect the devices to your computer with a USB cable? Seems like a lot of extra work to do to try to connect over a local network when they are made to sync to a computer with USB.

It seems my description wasn't clear enough. I do not have a home computer. Only a laptop. It's always with me. Sometimes I leave it at the hotel, but then it does not need to sync. I'd like to be able to sync my devices when they are literally right in front of me, without using the internet itself. Maybe I could make my tablet in some sort of modem, so the 3 can connect over that local network?

Your best option would probably be a small cheap Wi-Fi router and create a local network and just connect all three to it. You will need an app that can sync locally without internet access then. I think BTsync does that. It is also possible that your laptop has a card that will let you create a network so you wouldn't need the router but IDK on that one.

Thank you, had not thought of that yet. It's an ok solution, but it would mean I had to power it with an external battery probably. So I'd need to carry around at least 1 more device. So not perfect. There's no way to do it with my tablet itself? A little bit like tethering but then only the wifi connection without the data connection?

IDK actually never tried it. If you can ping your tablet and phone while they are tethered like that I see no reason why it wouldn't work. I'm actually kinda curious now I think I'm going to try and do that later tonight.

For the other thing ya you would have to carry the router around with you and either plug it in or use a battery every time.

I'd prefer not to, because it goes really slow and kills your battery really fast. Especially if you autosync. Which I'd prefer to do. But maybe I'm being to difficult about this topic.

Wow cool, Thanks! Let me know if you find something!

I didn't have a chance to try to many things but it seems to be working actually! I got my laptop and desktop to talk and transfer (albeit not super quick though still way faster than bluetooth) while both connected to my phones hotspot.
