Do I need to use Realtek HD Audio?

My headphones kept cutting the sound out when sounds in game got quiet, however I found it was because I was using the headphones as the default device and not the realtek audio. Switching to Realtek audio completely changed the way EVERYTHING sounds and I don't like it although it did fix my sound cutting problem. It sounds really weird and everything sounds sort of muffled for some reason even though I've got all my effects off... I really wish I could just get rid of this Realtek stuff, or does it sound better after I get used to it?

Try setting your headphones as the default device and disable realtek. Does that fix your issue or make sound go away entirely?

Yes it should sound like normal audio.

You may want to look at the realtek software and see if settings in there are jacked up, realtek does that...

When the sound drivers are properly installed it should sound as it's supposed to. Whether or not that is "normal audio" depends on what style you like, but it should be closer to "true audio".

If I disable Realtek it sounds normal again, however my sound drops out like it used to...

Well, when I turn my back to things in game I can't even hear them at all... Where would I go about getting these drivers? And if I just completely uninstall Realtek would that [language] me over? Under my sound devices there is the Realtek sound and AMD HD sound. I'm generally good with computer's but when it comes to sound cards, I know nothing. And when I'm not using Realtek, but rather have my Headphones set as my default device, what is it using for sound, and why is it so much better than realtek?

Probably using Windows' drivers instead of your mobo's. My guess is that you have conflicting sound software. I personally don't like Realtek. Are you using a sound card? I was under the assumption you were using onboard audio.

Pretty sure it's just onboard audio

Have you reinstalled your sound drivers? I would just uninstall all software related to sound, realtek, AMD etc... Then uninstall your sound drivers and let windows reinstall its own. Usually Windows is sufficient and easy to use if you aren't a crazy audiophile.

I want to just use the windows audio, but if I uninstall Realtek will it screw up my audio altogether? If I get rid of realtek I'm sure my audio on my headphones would actually work properly. I've just uninstalled Realtek and now I can use the "Headphones - HD Audio Device" which is a bit better than Realtek however it's still pretty bad. If I use the "Speakers - PX22 Turtle Beaches" setting the quality is perfect and how I just want it and how it's always been, however it drops out. I'm mailing them to see if there's a way to fix this.

1) You need to watch your language
2) I said REINSTALL, not just uninstall. You can find the drivers either at the manufacturer's page or the OEM page.
3) Can't tell you what the proper sound for your system is

I uninstalled because I don't like Realtek, and what's so wrong with cursing? I don't know if I had any others other than in the first paragraph because I just use them constantly, I can't help on where I'm from and how much we use them.

1) Watch your language, the mods already corrected your posts once before. It's disrespectful and counterproductive. Not doing so makes you no different than those chinese parents that let their kids take a dump in front of mickey mouse at disneyland (it's disgusting and someone else ends up having to clean up)
2) If your sound chip is realtek, you need the realtek drivers, and the newest possible. If you don't like their products, you should have bought a different motherboard. The only other option is to get a sound card like the Creative SoundBlaster or USB DAC for your system.

I don't see how it's an issue or disrespectful if I'm honest and I didn't know it wasn't allowed until this post, it's mainly used as a term of endearment from where I'm from.

He doesn't want you to swear because it is forum rules, that's just clear cut. I don't have an issue with words I don't believe in "bad words" but softies do so... That's whatever.

So you uninstalled realtek and what happened? Did Windows install its own drivers?

The windows drivers were installed and the playback device that I have to use for my headset to work properly is a good bit better, but is still a bit odd sounding. I suppose I'll just have to deal with it. I turned off the bit where windows automatically updates drivers though because I heard that it automatically reinstalls Realtek if its on. I'm not even 100% if Realtek came stock with it or not, the computer was given to me as a gift, and I upgraded from there on since it had a huge case.

Ya, who knows what the last person did to that poor machine. A clean install is always nice just so that you know everything that is running on the PC. But it's up to you. I would reformat and test one driver at a time, but I know not everyone wants to do that.
