So I just finished building my new mini ITX-rig with silverstones new SFX-L powersuply at 500W... It is a pretty expensive one..

The fan is off until heavier loads are pulled from the PSU then it gradually turns on. At specific RPM's (lower) it makes this terrible rattling sound. It seems as if it is a defect with all models as many people have pinpointed this issue out on forums.
It may be due to the fan controller not feeding enough volts to the fan idk..
Anyways sticking something into the fan and stopping it from spinning immediately makes this grunting sound go away.

I really dont feel like sending it in then I would have to buy the chieftec 500w sfx-l psu but would have to wait atleast 1 week without a rig.
Would it be possible to replace the 120mm low profile fan?

Solution
I would assume it's internal grinding in the fan or it's hitting something else in the unit.

I've replace fans in power supplies before. I just made sure they fit, and that the basic size, voltage/PWM, and RPM specs were similar.

I'd suggest BUYING another power supply, use the current one for now, then RMA it (or not) and keep as a backup unit.

Other:
Is it possible to use the PSU upside down? If so, does it reduce the noise?
