Help me pick a new i7 processor please!

Ok so I currently have an i5-2400 @3.1 along with a gtx970 and other basic gaming computer items that most would have, anyways. I am trying to do more with my PC and I upgraded everything except the Processor and its just simply getting old for me, I have had it for over 2 years and I really wanna get an i7 as I plan to stream 60fps 720p gaming as well. so the issue is, I cannot decide which to get..

I want the best one, prices are not the issue for me, but would like to try and stay under 400$ but yea, I have an 1155 chip set. and i have no idea which is the best. if anyone has one that they love and can give me there word for it. Let me know :D

1) Your motherboard support site will have a CPU support list.

2) Go to pcpartpicker or elsewhere and look for the fastest CPU that is supported (within your budget)

You can use CPUID to see what motherboard you have if uncertain.

Other:
Have you tried NVidia's Shadowplay in Geforce Experience?
(I think it's being renamed)

Anyway, it doesn't use much of the CPU.

The i7-3770K as said is the best CPU that your socket supports but it might be expensive. You can try searching Ebay as well but take your chances on used stuff.

i do not recommend ebay for cpus FYI.
if you have bought a 3770k on ebay after this period i can guarantee you it has been OC'ed and is not worth it salt any more or it has been binned and there not seen fit as a CPU for overclocking even if they do say tried or whatever. i order 2 and gave up cause they were "crap" and sent them back thank god for paypal.
i delidded my 377k(failed miserably)) and thought i could go a cheap route and buy a new similar as photoneboy said, it was a waste of time and money, i sold my board and upgrade to sky lake which is much faster,,, just a thought thoughn out there.

there are still new ones floating around and the 2700k or 2600k are major overclockers and afordable if you find em and have cooling

The 3770k is older gen, so retail stores don't have many new, eBay is the best place to get new and used. I picked up a 3770k, good batch number that's known to high OC, for $50, although they usually run about $100-150 used and anywhere up to $350 or so for new. They can definitely be found brand new in box with cooler for less than $400. Same goes for an upgrade, there are many used 4770k/4790k cpus for less than $300 and z97 boards for less than $100. This depends on what mobo op has, some older Sandy-Bridge boards have an issue with lvy cpus, Op may be relegated to an i7 2600k instead.

Some of the older Sandy's, especially ones for HP, Dell, Compaq etc don't have bios releases for upgrades to Ivy, same with some low end boards. The cpu physically fits the socket, its just impossible to find a bios to work unless you know how to hack a bios and can add the cpu manually.
