Can't Overclock With Turbo Boost Off.

Hi guys,

This is my first time at overclocking and it seems that I've missed a step or two somewhere.

My CPU is an i5-6600K and motherboard is an Asus Z170-AR. I have Speedstep on, Turbo boost off, my Core Ratio set 41 with all cores synced, and VCore set to auto.

My problem is that the CPU will not overclock to 4.1 GHz when turbo boost is turned off and will only go as high as 3.5 GHz, but once it's turned on I have no problem reaching 4.1 GHz. From some of the threads I've read on here and other forums, people have had no problems overclocking with turbo boost off.

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Solution
Overclocking with the CPU multiplier is in essence changing the turbo boost's multiplier on Asus boards and is the correct and preferred method to OCing unlocked chips, leave turbo boost on.

Well upon researching the matter deeper, I found the answer to the problem in another forum.

"You cannot overclock without Turbo mode. Just leave it on, it doesn't affects stability."

Hey Baralis, thanks for giving a better explanation than the answer I've stumbled upon. This overclocking thing is all new to me.

Is there any way to OC while turbo is off? Turbo mode keeps changing my OC setting to much.
