Hi.

I was playing gta 5 about a week ago on my old pc build when my computer suddenly shuts off and wouldnt turn back on. I thought my psu killed my pc and I bought my new pc build which I was planning on for some time. I bought every component except graphics card and hd's. I didnt buy a graphics card since I had 1 year old gtx 970. With the graphics card installed in my new pc build I had the same problem. The pc wouldnt turn on. When I took out my graphics card the pc would turn on and booted. I went to get my old gtx 570 and the new pc was working perfectly. I tried my 570 in my old pc build which I thought was dead and the pc worked perfectly.

What happend to my graphics card?

The temps were normal and had a low gpu usage when this happend. I've never had a problem with this card.

I should mention both the new and the old pc starts with the graphics
card connected to the PCIe slot but both wont turn on the power when I connect the PCIe power cables to the card. The fans start on the card if I dont connect the power cables.

The psu in my old pc is a seasonic 750W 80+ gold.

Why did my gtx 970 die and why?

I bought a new gtx 980 ti for the new pc build. I just want to know why and how it died.

Solution
Your PSU is good so it was just a case of a bad graphics card.

Next time run some video card stress tests to check for errors so that you can replace it.

Some of the common GFX card error checking tools are OCCT, Video Memory stress Test etc.

Happy Gaming!
