Why does my GPU stop posting image?

A couple of days ago i just finished building my computer but i've been having this problem that driving me crazy.
My gpu, Gtx 980 Ti G1, stops posting image randomly and i can't get it back without turning the pc off completely. But even if it doesn't post image, the gpu is still running ( I can hear the game through my headphones and feel it through the wheel). I don't know what's causing it because sometimes it does it when under load and other times on the desktop. I really hope you can help me fix this. Thanks in advance !

System:
CPU : Intel Core I7 6700K
Mobo: GA-Z170X-Gaming 7
Gpu: GTX 980 Ti G1
Psu: Corsair CX750M
Os: Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bits

Did you make sure it's sitting properly.are all wires double check.did you try switching wires and port dvi dvi-d hdmi

Make sure the cable connection from the GPU to your monitor is secure as it could be as simple as a loose contact. I'm sure others will post up stating that your PSU is the problem but I have the same PSU powering 2 x Sapphire R9 280x Tri-x's without any problems whatsoever, so take it from me, it is NOT an issue with your power supply being 'rubbish'.

Given that the problem happens when your on your desktop, I don't believe it could be temperature related but it would be worthwhile monitoring your GPU's temps (however it would be difficult to confirm given that when you lose the monitor signal you then won't be able to check the GPU temp).

Have you tried moving the monitor cable to another port on the GPU when this happens...depending on what port connector type you are using, i.e DVI/ HDMI/Displayport

I'm using an HDMI cable, its the only port that the monitor has, and i've tried other monitors aswell but it does the same thing. I'm 90% sure that the issue that the issue is GPU related since the HDMI of the mobo works fine.
As for temps i use the led of the GPU, i have it set to display the temperature, and it happens randomly, sometimes is hot others is idling.

Yes, i've tried it with another HDMI cable that i know that i works for sure since is the one that i have in my other pc.
The gpu still is in warranty, should i send it back?

RMA is always an option, and given you've gone through a reasonable fault finding exercise without curing the problem, I would be tempted to go down this path.

Turns out that the PCI-E port had some dust on it because i cleaned and reinstalled the GPU and it started to work perfectly.
