I have an external hard drive desktop from seagate free agent 1TB . When i plug it in it doesn't light up or make any noise , i bought a universal adapter 12V and then when i plug it in, it flashes once but makes no noise . I don't know if the issue is the power or the hard drive died. Any ideas?

Hi there shadesofgrey23,

So you've tried two power cords and none of them works? Then I guess we can assume that the cord isn't the issue here.
This means that:
- There is something wrong with the enclosure.
- There is something wrong with the HDD itself.
Unfortunately, in both cases, you will not be able to access the drive with software tools.

In similar cases, some users try to take the drive out of the enclosure and attach it internally. Keep in mind that this will void the warranty and may not work in case the drive inside has some sort of proprietary connectors. Also, there will be no point in that in case the HDD itself has failed.

Let me know in case you have some more questions,
