What CPU should I get for AM3 socket?

Dell XPS 7100
AMD Athlon ll x4 630 2.8 Ghz
16.0 GB Ram
GEForce GTX 750 Ti

Would like to upgrade my processor but not sure whats available for the AM3 socket. Budget under $500 or would I be further ahead just to buy a new Mobo with better processors? Thanks for the help.

The problem with Dell and other name brand PC's is the BIOS of the motherboard is locked sometimes to not even support all the CPU's that the socket may support. Regardless of that, the best of the AM3 socket would be a 6 core, and that's not going to give a huge boost over what you currently have.

What are you trying to achieve? Better graphics, or more FPS, than maybe a better GPU would be in order.

I recently began playing Rift which is not optimized for multi core processors, that is essentially the problem. I sometimes encounter FPS issues. May just go to PC Parts Picker and build a new pc. Was not sure if it would be worth the time and effort to invest more into this 1.
