well i recently purchased a ASUS GTX 750 Ti-OC 2 GB and i fitted it into my pci-e slot, it lighted up and the fans are running, it has a 6 pin slot so i am wondering if it receives the power only from the pcie slot would it run fine, or would it require some electricity from my power supply as well. If it only receives power from my pcie slot would this put my pc at risk? because it has a 6pin slot but im not sure if im required to connect a 6pin from my psu. Would getting the power only from the pcie slot degrade performance?

Thanks

you need to supply power via the 6pin. no amount of asking or saying that the fans spin is going to help the fact that it needs power. if it didn't NEED the power, the connector wouldn't be there. it's not like Asus did it for kicks cuz they had spare parts lying around...

and since you're clearly indicating that Windows can't find the graphics card to apply the drivers to, then clearly it's NOT working without the power connection, fans or no fans.
Highly overclocked versions of the GTX750ti require a 6 pin power lead for full performance.
Most GTX750ti cards can run on the pcie x16 slot only.
If your card has a place for a 6 pin psu lead, you should plug it in. A 6 pin lead can deliver up to 75w, but the extra needed by your GTX750ti is likely much less than that.
What, exactly is the make/model of your psu?
If need be, using a molex to 6 pin adapter if necessary will work out fine.
This assumes your psu is not a 300w junker.

One symptom of insufficient power to a graphics card will be display artifacts under load.

Whatever, do not worry. insufficient power will not damage anything.

at the moment i have a generic 500w non modular psu, i was thinking about getting a sata power to 6 pin cable seeing as i have a free one hanging out of my psu but now that my graphics card is running do i need to? i haven't installed the drivers for it yet so i don't know how it runs

A sata to 6 pin pcie adapter cable will work.
It is under 3d gaming that the extra power will be needed so best to tend to that.

A graphics card will run in a low res mode without drivers.
That lets you install the current drivers so you can get full resolution and performance.

You could use the included cd for the driver, but it is better to download the latest one directly from nvidia.

could you provide a link for this graphics card? i cant seem to find one and i am going to order a sata to 6pin in the meantime should i run the card without connecting it to the power supply, would there be a noticable perfomance difference between the two ( between connecting to the psu and not connecting to the psu)

Thanks

I think this is your card:
http://www.asus.com/Graphics-Cards/GTX750TIOC2GD5/

Do you not have the box?

You could try to run, but if the GTX750ti gets heavily loaded, it might shut down or appear to fail in some other way.

You should be able to buy one locally at walmart or office depot.
A molex to 6 pin pcie adapter should work equally well.
