Hey Tomshardware's forum bros,

I recently built a new PC, but I still haven't recieved my CPU, RAM and graphics card yet. As it is my first time building a PC, I completely forgot to install the standoffs, ( I was wondering why the ports on the motherboard wouldn't fit into the I/O shield )

Now that I screwed the standoffs correctly into the chassis, when I try to boot up my computer ( without CPU, RAM and GPU ) , nothing shows up but a green led light that is located on the motherboard...

I'm pretty sure that every cable is connected correctly ( 8 pin, 24 pin ) . The chasis fans don't
work even though they are connected properly, which bothers me a lot cause I saw a video on youtube that a guy built a computer without cpu gpu and ram managed to at least get the fans working.

Does it mean that I destroyed the motherboard ? Cause I kinda forced a bit in order to screw the motherboard into the case without standoffs. ( the MOBO bent a bit )

So, as for now, should I return the motherboard to Amazon and get a new one or should I wait till the 31st of January to get the rest of the components and test again ?

Any suggestions ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I have the Asus Z170-A, but the BIOS isn't what bothers me, it's the fans, they just don't turn on. I don't think that i need a cpu and ram sticks in order to make them work, correct me if I'm wrong.

Btw when i press the power button, no led lights up.

Are you sure that I need my cpu and ram stick installed in order to get the fans working ?

Sounds like you need some instruction before building your own PC, maybe watch some more Videos.
You need the CPU & RAM before you can expect anything to happen and powering up the motherboard while it's screwed to a metal backplate with no standoffs is a very bad Idea. You won't know if it's ok until you get the rest of the parts.

I'd say the best option for you is to find someone who's done it before to give you some pointers in person.

Thanks for the reply. I actually watched a lot of videos but when it comes to building it myself... I just screwed up. What bothers me the most is that the case fans don't spin. IMO, there is no need for a cpu/ram in order to get the case fans running, am I right ?
