No the PSU should be fine.

Check the 24 pin Atx power block from the Psu to the motherboard, make sure is is properly fitted.

Make sure you also connected the E-atx 12 eight pin power block from the Psu to the motherboard also.
The eight pin power block on the motherboard is black in color and is between the two silver Vrm heat sinks of your motherboard to the top most left looking at the board in the case.

If you do not connect the eight pin what will happen is two things the board will part post and then power off.
Or a few fans will spin on the board but it will not fully post to the bios splash screen.

And as you have already done so make sure all 12v Pci-e power connectors from the Psu are connected direct to the GTX 970
graphics card.

It`s about 99% sure you forgot to connect the extra 12v eight pin E-ATX power connector Aiden.
It`s often missed because the block is tucked away or obscured by heat sinks and cooling plates on your motherboard.

On the back of the motherboard there seems to be a lot of pins where the case fans i pressume are being connected to the routed into one big 4 pincable that is then connected to the psu
Ive always seperatly put them into the motherboard and not like this
Could this be causing an issue

Im only suggesting this because i know that the cpu motherboard and gpu power cables are in the motherboard correectly
The only thing im not sure of is if they are plugged into the psu in the appropriate slots that i will check later
I just pressumed they could be put in in any order though
