What Part is Broken?

So I decided to clean my graphics card today. And when I put my card back in and started up my PC there was no sound being outputted. I tried everything is just decided to try and remove everything and put it back together. Once that was done, I booted it up fine but then once I got to log in, my computer would just turn off. I did this 4 - 5 more times just to be sure it wasn't a fluke. But on the 6th time, my graphics card started to smoke a little out of the DVI port and then my computer just wouldn't display anything anymore. But the thing is, when I try and use on board graphics to display my stuff, nothing shows up either. No display, bios screen, or boot screen. It would power up and just start going for 1-2 minutes and turn off. My motherboard has LED's that light up and the fans turn on.

Any type of reply would be great thanks!

Solution
If the magic smoke is released the graphics card is burnt out. RMA if you can. If not, replace it.

Do NOT continue to use the computer until this is done.

Yeah. My guess was also the motherboard. Nothing smells burnt on the motherboard and there is no physical damage on it.

But shouldn't the on board graphics still work? Or are the both broken?

I can't even go into BIOS because nothing is displaying.

The bad graphics card has destroyed your motherboard. This might be a good time to re-think and consider an upgrade or even a new build.

Lucky, I have a lifetime warranty on my PNY card so I can just grab a RMA and a new motherboard.

Yes that's a good option. And remember, when you re-install the OS you must choose telephone activation and explain your circumstances to get it authenticated. I had to do this when I changed my mobo to a new one of the exact model.

Why would I need to install the os again? My hard drive still works fine. Also are you sure that if smoke comes out of the DVI port its fried? What are the signs that its fried? Cause the fans still spin up.

Why is that? So would I have to call up Microsoft and explain my story so I can get a new registration key?

Smoke indicates a burnt out part. I will not risk other components on the system when I see a part smoking. The fans spinning is controlled by the motherboard (not by the graphics card).

When I changed my mobo (exact make and model) the computer ran fine for a few days and then problems started. This is why I decided to re-install the OS (Windows 7 Pro). This involved telephone activation and I do realize that this activation was a good gesture on Microsoft's part. Legally they are not obligated to activate an Win 7 OEM OS when the motherboard is changed.

Okay thanks. When you activated windows again, did they simply give you a new key?

During telephone activation, Microsoft gave me a very long string of numbers to activate it - It was not a new key; just new activation. Mine was an OEM Windows 7 Pro OS.
