So recently while playing GTA V on my new custom desktop pc my computer had stopped displaying the game and I was stuck with a backlit screen. So I went to turn it off but it wouldn't turn off with the normal power button so I flicked the switch on my psu to turn it off. While booting it back up it had gave me 2 beeps which as odd considering the fact I usually just get one. I then learned that this meant that this was supposedly a CMOS battery error. After logging in to my pc my screen did the same thing over and over again. So I replaced the battery with one from a car remote control (the same type of course) but it still gave me a error, can you guys help? Thanks in advance!

Well I figured out my problem, it was my video card, I got an extra card and it worked so I guess I'm going to be filling out a form for a refund. Thanks for the help though!

Ok, so good news and bad news. The good news is that my pc no longer beeps twice and just beeps once. And the bad news is what I feared the most, the screen still blanks out after using my pc. I still can't press the power button to turn it off and I'm afraid if I keep hitting unplugging it or pressing the back switch, I will blow another CMOS battery. Do you think I killed my video card?

Would this be a good psu to buy if it's the problem? XFX TS 550W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply. I have an extra evga psu in an other pc I might check it out later to see if the psu is the main problem.

I'm pretty sure I do, but I think the end is near. After borrowing a psu and ram from a friend I switch led them both out from my pc and it worked for a good amount of time. I then put my ram in and it didn't work. I'm going to test it again with my original psu and hope for the best!

Download Memtest86+ and try testing your RAM (one stick at a time).

Well so much for hope, apparently I didn't wait long enough for my pc to mess up again. After switching out the psu it still didn't work. I'm at a complete lost now and I have absolutely no clue on what to do now. (also I only have one 8gb stick and the one I was testing had one 1gb stick)

So what do I do next, I'm at a loss right now with no idea what to do with this computer. I know it's not the PSU, not the memory, I doubt it was the cpu and I can't test the video card. So I guess once I get my hands on a video card somehow I'll test it... unless somebody else knows what's wrong with my pc ;(

So the memory that you borrowed was only one stick of one GB? That may have not been enough for your system. I'm not sure that you ruled out bad memory yet. Did you run Memtest86+ as rcxtra suggested?

Who built your new custom desktop? If someone else, it comes with a warranty, right?

Well the pc boots up, I log in, get to the Windows desktop screen and then as soon as I pull up a program it crashes and gives me a backlit screen. So I can't really download memtest86+. Also if 1GB of ram isn't enough for my pc to run, would it yield the same results as a corrupt memory? Sadly I built my pc myself so I don't have a warranty on the pc itself but I think there are warranties for certain parts, but that doesn't help if I don't know what's wrong with it.

I think memtest runs off a USB, so maybe you can download it to a usb on some other computer and try to run it. So you have substituted different memory, a different PSU, and reset the bios and nothing helped? I'm leaning toward a defective MB, though there are certainly many here with more experience than me. Have you tried moving the RAM stick to different slots? You could have good RAM, but a defective slot on the MB.
