what ram do you have? you can probably keep that too. this is all you need. its not the latest and greatest cpu/mobo, but it is by far the best performance for your money excluding overclocking. if you have ddr3 1600mhz, keep it and put the money into a more feature rich, durable mobo.

where do you get this info? an xeon e3-1231 v3 is equivalent to an i7-4770. the only difference really is that the xeon lacks integrated graphics, giving a huge price break.

I'm sorry to un do all your guys' work but I just got hit financially and I won't be able to spend as much as I'd like. I do believe my i5 is still good to go for a few more years.

New budget 500.

I don't need games to look amazing I simply want them to run at decent settings. That being said I'd rather not spend 500 on a gtx 980 when I can find a gtx 970 for 299-350. But if the performance is much more significant than the 970 then I understand.
