Hi, im planning on upgrading my mobo since the one im using right now cant overclock. I was wondering if i could still use my phenom ii x4 955 thats around 3-4 years old for the newest games paired with my gtx 950 ftw. some games stutter and reach 100% cpu usage. will this cpu overclocked to 4 ghz be able to run new games and not bottleneck my gpu? Also, is the x4 955 able to overclock? i can't see that it says BE anywhere, and the multipliers are set to x16 @ 3.2 mhz. i have no clue if thats a mobo limitation or a cpu one.

Solution
It doesn't sound like it is a BE. If raising the multi does nothing, then it's not.
And if not, you won't be able OC it very much. Maybe a few hundred MHz using the base clock alone.
I would say you are about at the max gfx card for that CPU. Time for an upgrade if it isn't satisfying you anymore.

yea well when i opened amd overdrive the multipliers were already maxed out at 16x @ 3.20 mhz. and when i use the bios screen there are no options to OC.

i guess its time for a new mobo/cpu then.
