2x4gb and 1x8gb ram a bottleneck?

Hello,

I had a 2x4GB RipjawZ kit installed in my mobo and got a 1x8 GB ripjawZ kit for my birthday, I now run both in my system and Passmark reports all 3 DIMMs as running at 667MHZ, and they are obviously single channel.

Can this in any way bottleneck my system and would it benefit to get an extra 1x8GB dimm?

What is your motherboard?

You are lucky it works.
Disparate ram is not supported.
You want to install the two 4gb sticks in the same channel that is different from the single 8gb stick.
You should then operate in dual channel mode since the capacity per channel is equal.

Normally ram reporting as seen in cpu-z shows only the single speed, not the dual speed.
You are actually operating at 1333

Regardless, more ram is good.
Apps do not generally depend on the speed of ram for actual fps or performance.

@geofelt,

It's actually not random mix & match RAM, its the same DIMM, same speed, voltage and latency from the same manufacturer only a 8gb stick instead of a 4gb stick. But im glad to hear that this will not affect my performance in any way :D

Ram is sold in kits for a reason.
A motherboard must manage all the ram using the same specs of voltage, cas and speed.
Ram from the same vendor and part number can be made up of differing manufacturing components over time.
Some motherboards can be very sensitive to this.
That is why ram vendors will NOT support ram that is not bought in one kit.
