I was planning on buying the EVGA GT730 with Gddr5 and 2 mb and installing it in my HP 8300 with I5 3570 4GB memory and 500GB hard drive. I'm looking at buying a Pioneer BDR-XD05 external Blu ray player to watch Blu ray movies. The Pioneer site says minimum requirements are NVIDIA 8600 GT graphics card. I don't know how to compare these things - is a GT730 enough to run the Pioneer Blu ray player? I'm starting to be amazed at how difficult it actually is to watch a blue ray movie on a computer. lol

The primary thing you need in a video card to play Blu-rays is support for HDCP. The GT730 does support HDCP so assuming your monitor/TV does it should be fine.

Additionally, let me give you a bit of advice. If all you want to do is watch movies you'd be better off picking up a cheap Blu-ray player or using a PS3/PS4/Xbox One. The DRM on Blurays is so complicated on PC that you constantly need to upgrade your Blu-ray software to play newer discs and the whole experience isn't very good. I was at one point using a laptop to play Blu-rays but it was so annoying to keep up on the updates (that you have to pay for) that I gave up and just bought a PS4 (I'm also a gamer so that weighed into the equation as well).

Yeah, the software issue is a real joke. This player comes with Cyberlink software version 10 - I'm guessing that's pretty much worthless seeing that they're up to 15 now. I looked at cheap Blu ray players but there's no way to get the input into my computer (this one runs on USB). When I started, I thought "Gee I'll just get a better computer and a QHD monitor and watch Blu ray movies on it" besides doing my business stuff. What a nightmare - at least this player supports 4k and I'm hoping the latest version of it has newer software so it'll work for a while before I have to upgrade the software (for another $60).
