Hello,

My current RAM is Corsair XMS2 twin2x4096-6400C5

I'm wanting add more RAM, since my current PC is quite old and needs some oomph.
However, looking at the current prices for an equivalent ram. That is just not sensible to do so.
So the question is,

Will buying a generic RAM impact any performance issues?
If I buy a 8GB kit, and ditching the old RAMs.

My PC is currently overclocked and the RAM voltage is higher to work. (BIOS 1.88v).

My current specifications are:
CPU: E7400 @2.8Ghz (Overclocked to 3.4Ghz)
Motherboard: Asus P5QL-E
RAM : 4 GB Corsair XMS2
Graphics Card: Sapphire HD 4850 512MB.
2 x Spindle harddrives ( 1x SSD on order)
Resolution: 1920x1080 native.

Many thanks!

Hello,

My current RAM is timed at 5-5-5-18 (Auto on BIOS), with 1.88v.
Using this information, which RAM specification should I look for whilst doing a search?

Many thanks!

Hello hang-the-9 & others,

Many many thanks for your previous posts! I know that this configuration is ancient, but it's what I've got so... :/
Also, totally forgot to reply to this. Until of late, since I didn't get around to buying extra RAM. My apologies.

To make things easier to read & compare for those in the know. I'll post the original RAM sticks info first.
5-5-5-18 CL5
800Mhz
1.9v

I have recently purchased 4GB of RAM sticks. The specs is as follows:
6-6-6-18 CL5
800Mhz
1.8v

Now, the system boots fine when Bios is left to default/auto. No overclocking, no fiddling with any values.
RAM Values when booting as above default settings

DRAM Freq = 333.7 Mhz
FSB:DRAM = 4:5
Timings = 5-5-5-15
2T (Command rate)

However, when I've tried to apply previous CPU over clocking, and leaving the RAM values on Auto, with the FSB at 333. The PC boots, but gets stuck at the Welcome screen and gets stuck. I'm fairly certain, it's not the Antivirus software nor any software issues. Since, this only happens when the old sticks and the new sticks are both loaded.

Any thoughts on what is holding me back from getting into Windows 7 boot (64)?
As using my current CPU at default leaves this PC obsolete for my use, any help would be very much appreciated, truly.
