Good speed from modem, almost none from router

Hey all,

I am not sure if this is even the right place for this sort of problem, but I am sort of at a loss now so I am trying it anyway.

I recently got a new internet connection that is supposed to give me 100 Mbps speeds. When the initial connection was done on my computer, it showed the speeds that I paid for. On directly connecting to the same computer, it still shows me the same speeds.

The problem occurs when I connect it through a router. I get very erratic speeds, sometimes none at all, that is the internet completely shuts off for a few seconds.

I figured out recently that it was because my computers MAC address was stored in their systems. So I cloned the MAC address of my computer to the router, but that didn't help at all.

I am using a couple of routers now for troubleshooting. I have a NETGEAR JNR1010v2 and DLINK DIR-600M.

I have done most of the troubleshooting from the NETGEAR router. I had tried hard resets, and setting changes while being in touch with NETGEAR support staff and on my own as well.

Contacting the ISP is a waste of time, they have been less than helpful, so if there is a way I can do this on my own, then I would be really thankful to anyone that could help me figure this out.

Thanks !

Solution
..... I dont even...

Its working fine now..... 2 weeks of not having internet, including a couple of hours back when I had no speeds at all and frequent disconnects....

And now it decides to work perfectly. It's never worked perfectly before. I got it up to a max of 8 mbps last night but that was about it.

Thanks for the response good sir. I will close the topic now, hopefully the problem doesnt persist.

what is the base of your internet connection ? Fiber - Cooper - Wireless?
i recommend you to use a router with a gigabit port so that it could handle the 100 Mbps downlink you getting from your ISP and because the normal routers on the market are really bellow on what they claimed so a gigabit router would solve it . and if want to have wifi connection on that speed i recommend you to get a AC router that could handle the Wireless part.
if your using Cooper and Fiber try to test the speed in different annex type modes and use a close speedtest server
if your using wireless base internet try to set the radio on autoset channel mode.
