Hey guys!
Im planning on buying a 1500 dollar gaming PC next black friday(Nov 25) ONLINE. I was wondering, how much discount would I get on it? Please give me me a realistic answer. I dont want to have an unexpected price surprise.
Thanks!

Solution
It's impossible to quantify discounts for Black Friday at the moment.

Black Friday is generally a day/weekend/week where you can buy prior generation tech for discounted prices - discounts are not as huge on the latest tech (which, by Black Friday this year will still be Skylake/Refresh and likely Pascal GPUs). From an AMD standpoint, I wouldn't look to older tech, you'll want Zen/Polaris or nothing.

You're at least 9 & a half months out from getting any realistic indication of discounts.

Unless you're looking for tech released right around Black Friday, it should be cheaper than it is now - but whether it's $5 or $500 is anyones guess.

Honestly Black Friday is one of the worst times to buy. And here's why - the stuff you want to buy is almost never discounted. Stuff that's incredibly high in demand like processors, high end GPUs, new tech like M2 SSDs, and any power supplies of decent quality are the things that will never see heavy discounts. You might see some percentage off the MSRP but that's not that much. What usually gets discounted is high inventory junk that the stores can't move the rest of the year. Yes, there will be an 850W power supply for $40, but it will be of the Coolmax variety. Yes there will be a $20 tablet, but it will be something that you wouldn't want to purchase the rest of the year.

As Barty1884 said you're more likely to find what you want the rest of the year when its' not Black Friday. I see threads like this all the time toward the end of the year and its' always the same thing. Black Friday / Cyber Monday is usually one of the worst times to buy because you will never get the discounts you want on the components you want to purchase.

The thing is that it's pointless to plan a build out this far in advance. You're better off coming back when you're closer to being ready to buy because things will change drastically between now and November. There will be new graphics cards around June - July, and AMD's new CPUs are supposedly out by then, as well as new cases and power supplies, and coolers and so on. Things could look entirely different by the time you're actually ready to hit the purchase button if you're buying then.

As g-unit has said, it's pretty much impossible to plan a build out this far in advance.
Ultimately, it's pretty pointless to plan out a Black Friday build out at any point. If you want a Black Friday build, you do it with what's available (usually older tech) and accept that it's not going to be top of the line, and you're unlikely to see heavily discounted PSUs.

Looking at the build you put together:
1. CPU is unlikely to see huge savings - Cannonlake / Kaby lake are going to be 2017, so the best you can hope for is a Skylake refresh impacting Skylake prices. Seems unlikely. Maybe a couple of bucks.
2. CPU cooler - not the top of the line, you're likely to see it go on sale by Black Friday, but also at numerous times throughout the year also.
3. Motherboard - New motherboards will be released all the time. You might save $10-$20 on it by BF, but by then there will be newer chipsets & it would make the most sense to pick up one of those instead.
4. RAM - maybe not that specific RAM, but you should see 2x4GB for the $25 range on BF
5. HDD - That's not even the cheapest price for a Barracuda today. It can be had for $45 and you're unlikely to see much savings.
6. GPU - New GPU releases normally impact the lower-end GPUs, with the high-end maintaining their prices better. Unlikely to see much of a saving there.
7. PSU - That specific PSU goes on sale all the time. It's the budget version in the SuperNOVA line. Not horrible, but not very good. There's better deals available today (B2 750W for $60, XFX TS 750W for $61)
8. Peripherals - Headphones etc might go on sale. Worth keeping an eye on, but that's the kind of thing you could pick up on BF.

Yeah I completely agree, couldn't have said that better myself. The components that are heavily discounted on BF are not the top of the line, shiny new stuff. It's usually the much older tech that stores stock tons of during the year and they can't move any other time of year. Plus when you add all the new tech that's going to be out this year - new GPUs, new AMD CPUs and possibly GPUs, new cases and power supplies, that sort of thing. A $1500 build now will look totally different by the end of the year.

1. This is true unless you live near a Micro Center. They have some amazing deals on Intel processors and motherboard combos but that's not available to everybody and you certainly won't see the new stuff get any heavy discounts.

4. RAM - maybe not that specific RAM, but you should see 2x4GB for the $25 range on BF

Possible you might see DDR4, but I doubt it.

6. GPU - New GPU releases normally impact the lower-end GPUs, with the high-end maintaining their prices better. Unlikely to see much of a saving there.

True, you will never see high end GPUs get any sort of discounts - these are the most heavily demanded items all year around. Sure, some wanker will try to sell a GT710 and advertise that as "2GB discrete graphics card - $49!", but that is not the kind of store you should shop at on BF/CM.

7. PSU - That specific PSU goes on sale all the time. It's the budget version in the SuperNOVA line. Not horrible, but not very good. There's better deals available today (B2 750W for $60, XFX TS 750W for $61)

Yeah PSU is one of those things where you should absolutely get what you want the second you see it on sale. Another area where the high end never gets discounted but some store will try to hawk lower end, poor build quality models as like "850W for $39!" like I saw Tiger Direct try to scam last year. Tiger Direct and Micro Center are notorious for this on BF/CM.

And yeah peripherals are one thing that actually does get discounted - another high inventory, low yield set of items that stores stock lots of during the year, but you might see new mice and keyboards before the end of the year too. After all there is E3 and Computex to look forward to.

Totally agree with the misleading advertisements around BF/CM, I got a few emails advertising some things I may have been interested in (some SSDs, PSUs and a GPU), but then you follow them through to details & it's really not a good deal, despite being a 'sale'.

I'm in Canada, so don't get BF/CM to the same degree as the US to begin with, and I have no experience of Micro Centre, but I've heard about their deals - absolutely something the OP should keep an eye on throughout the year if they're near one.

DDR4, I think by BF/CM should be feasible to get 2x4GB for the $25 range (probably only 2133Mhz). Not saying it will be the best brand, or best looking, but there should be options right around there. I think the cheapest you can buy regularly is around $45.

Absolutely correct about the PSU. When you see what you want/need go on sale, buy it.
I picked up an EVGA SuperNOVA B2 750W on Boxing Day in Canada for $89.99 + $35 rebate when it normally sells for around $100 (after rebate) to $130 if no rebate available. Didn't matter to me whether it was boxing day/BF/CM etc, the item I wanted went on sale. Not a saving of hundreds, but a $100 PSU for $55 (both prices after rebate) worked for me.

Yeah DDR4 is getting surprisingly cheap! I remember when they started stocking DDR4 last year and how over the top expensive it was. Last year that kit would have gone for like $159. Now it's $33. Wow.
