Hi community,

I'm planning on building a custom pc in a custom desk.
My budget for the desk is about €200, which should be enough, right? My budget for the pc isn't very high, €600. I live in the Netherlands. I can maybe add 100-200 euros to the budget if there's no other way to do it.
I was wondering what the best parts would be (need about 2-3 fans or watercooling, right?),
and if this has ever been done before, because Ive searched the big internet for quite a while..

I'm using plexiglass to see the pc parts, and building the desk from a basic ikea desk.. Upgraded with the plexiglass and some wood maybe?
Could you help me out with planning the creation of the desk? Like, how to cool it and how to connect the ports and power button?
And, what parts should I use?

New pc details:

Approx. purchase date: 2-3 weeks (might expand to a couple of months if I decide to save more money)
Budget range: €500-600 (620 is ok too :p )
System usage: Mostly gaming, and watching movies/TV shows.. So I guess the performance for gaming is quite important, and I will also need at least 1TB of space)
I'm not buying a monitor/mouse/keyboard or anything.. Purely the pc with it's parts and cables.
I have an old power supply which will suffice. No new PSU needed. Also I will re-use the back of my old pc, and a fan. So those aren't needed either.
I don't need to buy a new OS.
I don't prefer any website, but amazon germany or any Dutch (not Deutsch, but Dutch = from Netherlands xD ) site would be useful.
Location: Groningen, Netherlands.
Parts preference: none.
Overclocking: No.
Multiple GPUs: Nope.
Monitor resolution: 1680x1050
Additional comments: The pc is being built into a custom desk, so no case needed. Maybe extra fans? The leds are not included in this budget, no need to add those to the list :)
Reason for buying a new pc: I need a new one since my old is lacking the performance needed nowadays.. And I want to do something cool, so I'm building it into the custom desk ^^

Thanks for reading,
Patrick.

PS: I don't know what category to put this in, exactly.. So if I did it wrong, please tell me :D

There aren't really any 'tutorials' for that. Each of those is a full custom build.

Basically:
Mount the PC in a recessed space.
Place plexiglass over it
Lighting as you desire
Fan holes in the back

You are mainly building a large horizontal PC case from scratch, mounted into a desk.

I'd say 4/10.. Not perfect :p
I have a couple of friends who have experience in building PCs, working with wood, working with electricity etc, so the building won't be the problem.. It's just that I need some assistance in what I could encounter, possible problems, you know?
Ofcourse I've google pc in desk, pc in desk tutorial, desk with built in pc tutorial etc. etc. and also some images, but I haven't really found any tutorials or build logs I could use.. So I guess I will just have to build it on my own with the help of friends ^^

So, what about the airflow? I've read several articles about people who are (planning on) building this, and a lot of people warn them about the airflow.. Which might also just be precaution for fire, since the desk is made of wood..
I have a spare pc case I will rip apart and I will use those ports for the new pc if that's possible?
Thanks for the quick answers, but I still don't have a list of parts, so if anyone could help me with that I'd be very thankful (not that I'm not thankful for u guys, thanks a lot:p )

Wood ignites at about 300C. If your components get that hot, you have other issues.

Yes...cutting apart and using an existing case is a VERY good way to proceed with this. The motherboard spacing is already set.
If nothing else, as a template.

Out the back or underneath, you say? Does it really matter, or can I just let it go out of the side (I want to use led fans, because.. it looks awesome? :p) Yea I know that's kind of why I came here.. I understand you can't simply give me a tutorial to make this desk, but well, any tips are welcome ^^

Out the back or out the bottom depends completely on the overall design.
"Out" is what matters.

Wow that really looks awesome.. And it's not very expensive either :D
Thanks for the suggestion, will probably buy this instead of the other LED strips :)
But I think I will still buy the led fans since the nzxt hue+ can't be on fans can it? If it can then I will surely not buy led fans :p

I think the whole pc in desk part is solved now, unless any1 has additional tips/warnings?
So, I heard u guys are great part listers.. Could someone please make a part list for around €600,- in the Netherlands? For a gaming pc?
Thanks for the help with the desk guys, you're awesome :D

i guess it would be possible to put the strips round the outside of the fans though probably not the inside

the cam software is what really sets these apart from other strips and they have already updated that a couple of times since i got it for xmas to allow new effects

it comes with 4 strips and nzxt should shortly be selling extra strips separately it can take up to 8 strips--4 on each channel

and each channel can be programmed to do something different from the other if you want it to
