Hello,
Please let me know if I should post my question elsewhere.
I have an old laptop, which is by now completely dead, it does not turn on, nothing happens when I push the power button. I would like to recycle it, but before, I would like to format/erase the hard drive completely, so my sensitive data cannot be recovered by bad people. This service is rather expensive, if I contact a professional.
Is there an uncomplicated way for me to do it?
I guess there is a way to connect my dead laptop to a working laptop, and then to use a program, such as DBAN, to do the work, but I do not know whether connecting the laptop will be technically feasible for me.
P.S. Maybe this is an unnecessary information: I also tried to open up the laptop, but one of the screws is stripped (the cross head is damaged) and I cannot remove that screw with a screwdriver (the damn laptop had a lot of technical issues and was repaired many times, so I guess the technicians destroyed that screw).
Thank you.
UPDATE regarding the screw: actually, it does not look that worn-out, so it surprises me that I cannot unscrew it, using all sorts of screwdrivers. I actually have an impression it is stuck in internal parts of the computer.
The main problem with that computer was that it had been overheating, so some parts inside it simply had been melting. The stuck screw is exactly where the hard drive is, it is above it. Does it make any sense to think that some parts of the hard drive actually melted and glued the screw? In this case, I guess, I should not worry about my data being ever recoverable.
Thanks again!
