Fan was making rattling noise

I have a 2.5 year old MSI 20E gaming laptop. It's working fine, but I was getting some fps drops in games that I thought may have been attributed to the fan being dusty and not working as well as it should. I cleaned out my laptop fan and it's been running cooler for 3 or more weeks, but there was a slight rattle occasionally. Today, it suddenly started making a ton of noise. It sounded like it was over-rotating and about to come loose or something, so I quickly shut down my laptop. After that, the fan seems to be working fine and seems to be back to normal. However, I'm afraid this will happen again and damage my laptop. It has all my files for school and a lot of things I'd rather not lose.

What do you recommend doing? I'd prefer not to spend a ton of money, but it would still beat buying a new laptop. I'm also not hardware savvy to the point where I can replace parts myself, but I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks for the help! Hopefully, I can get this resolved painlessly.

Also, I know there's quite a few threads with a similar problem, but I was also hoping that I could reply to answers to pinpoint the problem more accurately for my situation specifically. Especially if others have had an issue with the fan on the same model of laptop.

To begin with, it won't damage your computer. At worst your fan will stop working, your computer will reach its max temperatures and will shut down to prevent any damage. What you are explaining sounds more like a loose fan. And not the fan itself but the thing which spins (hell if i know the name of it), most likely it has gone loose, since the whole fan itself and the spinning thing are not completely attached. Try taking it out, removing it and putting it in its place again.

I guess I'm a little confused since I thought the fan was a single unit. Do you mean the rotor only and not the surrounding metal that encases the spinning part (what I'm calling the rotor)? Can this process be done with just a screwdriver or will I need anything else? I'll try and look for some youtube tutorials on how to remove the fan, but I just want to make sure I understand which parts you're referring to.
