Questions regarding graphics card upgrade

I am thinking about upgrading my pc graphics card , but I am really not sure where to start !
I have added 2 hard drives to my pc since I first got the pc for Christmas , a 200 gb ide drive and 500 sata 2 drive. I thought I would add that information incase it makes a difference.

I currently have frame drop issues on gmod :( . It will drop to 19-23fps when looking at big buildings , an will be at about 40fps when walking around non populated areas. This is my reason for upgrade.

On other games they run fine on low-medium but I would like to bump up the fps !

My current pc spec is :
Fractal design core 1000 case
Corsair cx600 bronze 600w psu
AMD fx6300 overclocked to 3.6ghz on stock cooling ;)
Zotac ge force gtx 750 ti OC via firestorm software to 1250mhz
Gigabyte 78-lmt-usb3 motherboard
8gb single ram stick
1TB seagate barracuda hdd
500GB seagate laptop hdd
200gb IDE HDD drive

I think that is all the needed specs ? :)

I was hoping you guys would maybe be able to find me a card that is compatible with my motherboard and case size (mini itx) , as I really don't want to dish out money and get it wrong :( . My price range would be £100-£170 , and I really don't mind about the noise of the gpu etc, I just like a card with high fps for lowest price possible :)

I will try and return the favour to you guys and I greatly appreciate any advice you can give :)

Concerning the OC, there's not proper set limit for ''too high''. You have to test your card for stability and heat. You could simply run an heavy test, like Furmark, for about 10-15 minutes. If it doesn't crash and your temps stay below about 80 degrees, you should be good. If you ever start to experience random crashes in games, make sure to reduce the overclock, because it's probably the #1 cause of instability­.

A GTX960 like this one would perform better than a 750ti, however, you should be getting higher fps than you are now. Since your CPU is on stock cooling and OC'd, I would check the temps to be sure that it isn't overheating and throttling down on performance.

If I'm correct, your case can have cards up to 210mm in length with the drive cages and that card is 173mm long.

Regarding the usage, a program like HWMonitor64 would give you active readings of your temperature and usage. Your CPU should be able to go past 50% in gaming, and the fact that it doesn't isn't a good sign. Try gaming for 10 minutes with HWMonitor open and check the max CPU temperature reading.

Awesome , when i get access to my computer tomorrow i will try what you said running hwmonitor while gaming :) . P.s when i use prime95 it manages to get to 100% usage easy, so i don't think the cpu is messed up ;)

I downgraded to windows 7 for a dag or so but didn't have time to reinstall any affected games. But I had an issue where the whole system would freeze, audio and video , the screen would freeeze , no mouse movement. And the audio would be silent for a few secs then everything resumes. When I am on windows 10 I don't have this freeze up issue so I think that issue is software . But the fps isue , I don't have a clue

I just updated my drivers for the graphics card (gtx 750 ti) and I got an even lower score on 3dmark ! I got 5064 on my test after updating drivers. Since when did older drivers score better ???

Overclocking the GPU seems to put the 3dmark score abit higher, but i am not sure if my overclock is to high ? http://postimg.org/image/j2zt7tu9b/ is the link to a screenshot of my msi afterburner. im not getting 5487 on the test.
Is my overclock to extreme ?
