Planning on buying a new pc. Need help on choosing a GTX 970, R9 390 or R9 390X. I want a video card that is futureproof for the next 3 years and if it comes to the time when it can't hold up to games by itself, I'm planning on an SLi/CrossFire configuration. Also, although I'm playing in 1080p now I plan on upgrading to 1440p when it's become more common so that is a key factor as well.

If those are your choices, go for the 390X. But be sure you have enough PSU for that card. And be sure the board you get does CF at x8, x8 lanes minimum.

The GTX 970 is a much better bang for the buck. More than enough for 1080p, and if you're going to put another one in for SLI, it can definitely handle 1440p. In 3 years, you'd be able to buy another GTX 970 or upgrade the card completely.
