Few weeks ago I started having this problem, my pc started shutting down while playing far cry 4, so I decided simply not to play that specific game, then after some days, all of a sudden my pc starts shutting down while playing any game. I've searched lots of forums and threads on tom's hardware, but they all seem to have a problem with the psu or temps.
At first my pc would shut down then the Asus anti-surge would pop up, well, after some research, I decided to turn off anti surge. OK, started playing a game, everything seems normal, but after about 20m of gaming my pc shuts down again, but with kind of a delay, my screen goes black, but my audio still works for a few seconds, then it completely shuts down. I went to a friends house, checked with a psu tester, everything seems ok with my psu. My gpu and cpu temps are always low 45-55.

Any kind of help is appreciated.

Here are my specs:
MOBO: Asus z97-a
CPU: i5-4690k (No, I haven't overclocked)
CPU cooler: NZXT Kraken x41
GPU: Asus GTX 970 STRIX (I belive It's factory overclocked)
PSU: Corsair CX500 (I calculated my total watt usage, It's ok)

PD: got plenty of fans

The thing is, your PSU is not even a 500W unit. It's actually a 400W power supply, as it only has 34 amps on the 12V rail, or 408W on the 12V rail, which supplies the majority of power to components, particularly the important ones like the CPU and GPU. As the temperature of the power supply increases, this is even lowered, it's called derating. So realistically, you're looking at what may be a 360W power supply for your needs, since this unit is only rated at 30C, so past there you can't expect it to deliver its stated wattage on the 12V rail. In addition, load on the 5V and 3.3V rails also lower the capabilities of the 12V rail, so what you're looking at may be a power supply with realistically 350W to power your system under...

For one thing, if Asus anti-surge is displaying a message, you should listen to it. Your power supply is likely providing an unstable voltage to the motherboard, which is only a bad thing. The CX500 also uses poor quality capacitors, so it could be these leaking that are causing issues. Point be told, replace the power supply. The reason the PSU is shutting down is because either over power protection or over temperature protection is kicking in. Some protection is turning off the PSU to protect it and your PC. Maybe over voltage protection. Or even under voltage protection.

It appears some people have had success in eliminating this type of problem by recabling their system, i.e disconnect your PSU and re-install all cabling making sure relevant cable connections are all secure. Beyond that I have nothing really to offer.

Thanks dude, really well explained, but before I buy another psu, I'll try borrowing a friends to test it first.

My pc didn't have any trouble running GTA 5 and/or BF4 before, but now, it shuts off even with League of Legends, any idea why?
