A week ago, I could acquire access to my internet via the router I have, now I cannot connect to the internet. Nothing major has changed, I used my VPN properly, it shuffles its own IP not mine, and so on.

Anyways, the router detects my MAC address on my PC but doesn't assign it an IP address and troubleshooting it says something about a Valid IP.

This laptop, my brothers computer in the next room, my girlfriends smartphone, the roku, and a bunch of consoles can connect no problem, I can see their MAC addresses along with their IPs and they get internet, but for some reason my main PC is singled out.

It's running WIN 8.1, through a USB wireless AC dongle, which clearly works since the router is detecting the PC, just not giving it internet access but nobody has gone through the routers settings since I'm the only one with the password.

I cannot for the life of me debunk this. I've tried ipconfig /release and /renew, I've tried assigning it a manual IP for it to not do anything.

Sorry if I late reply, this laptop is absolutely atrocious.

Verify: your VPN is working....("used my VPN properly" is not clear).

Can you provide the exact error message (Valid IP) provided by the router's troubleshooting?

Did you run the network troubleshooter in via the Network and Sharing Center?

Did you look at the results of "ipconfig /all"?

More detail please.

I fixed it myself through a lot of troubleshooting and going through privileges, firewall access and checking my router settings.

Turns out, some apple products install something called Bonjour. I have an ipod nano but it never gave me Bonjour, but my girl friends iphone installed it and it blocked my PC from leaving my network to the internet.

So if you're having this issue, go to Windows Firewall > Allow an app through Windows Firewall > Change settings > uncheck Bonjour completely.

I have Bonjour on my system.

However, I know it was an intentional installation. Part of a software package that was installed so guest iPads could print on my network printer.

Fairly sure that her cell phone could not have installed Bonjour on your PC per se.

Did you install any software to let Apple devices print on your network?

I am thinking about a couple of things that may have happened but will not speculate without more understanding of the bigger picture here.

Anyway glad to hear that things are back to normal again.
