Hey guys/gals

So I haven't ever bought a laptop and haven't gamed on pc in over 6 years. I was an avid wow/sc2 player. I am looking to spend around $1700 if I have to (give or take). I know these are cpu intensive games but I want to be a bit future proof if I can in case blizzard comes out with something new or there is a new PC RTS/city builder/moba that requires a good rig. I also will be using the laptop for audio recording music and school etc. I do all my other gaming on my PS4.

I was looking at the new alienware 17 R3 or the Asus ROG G752VT-DH72. Here are some links.

Alienware - http://www.amazon.com/Alienware-AW17R3-4175SLV-Laptop-Generation-GeForce/dp/B015P3SJD6/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1453866164&sr=1-1&keywords=alienware+17+r3
Asus - http://www.amazon.com/G752VT-DH72-Gaming-Discrete-GeForce-Titanium/dp/B01578ZN0Q

Since these games are not graphic intensive should I save some money and go for an older model from last year like this? The only big difference I see is the cpu - http://www.amazon.com/G751JT-17-Inch-Gaming-Laptop-model/dp/B00NVV2B98/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1453866334&sr=8-1&keywords=g751jt-ch71

Thank you for any help!

Is there that much of a difference in what I could get for the same amount? Considering I would have to buy a computer desk, monitor etc?

But I would be giving up the mobility... How much better would it be? And would I even need it for games like Wow and Starcraft?

Are you talking about building it myself part by part?

I do, and I am taking into account the mobility but I suppose it depends how much power I would be sacrificing. Also, I can get the Alienware 17R3 for $1550 after the $100 instant rebate and another $100 for the promo they are having. That is with 16gb of ram and the 970M

I used to build my own pc's when I played wow.

Whoa you are good haha. So what is better besides the slightly overclocked card? Sorry its been a while I am rusty. I am guessing I have more options with the future to upgrade here too?

those loot good, and its up to you dude, but i would go for a desk top cause you can upgrade and overclock and stuff, and laptops get hot and stuff, but its what you wanna do dude. i think it would be better in my opinion,

Awesome man you rock. And I'm going to use a table I have for now and grab a sweet chair. I'm still about $350 under what I was gonna pay for the laptop.

Anything else I should tweak you think? That mb has me pretty future proof?

I will grab the cable too.
