BSOD on startup. Two possibilities. IRQL_LESS_OR_NOT_EQUAL Or UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP

I've looked for quite a bit. I can't find anything exactly like my case. I have recently built a new PC. It has an i7 6700k, 16GB DDR4 2400 MHz, GTX 970, corsair RM850, ASUS MAXIMUS VIII HERO, and the corsair 900d case. I've encountered an extreme error. It seems to only be with this board too. Using another PC entirely, the Hard drive works fine. It has Windows 10 on it FYI. One thing I'm unsure about is the BIOS vesion: 0401 x64 (I'm assuming that's the instruction set) I've not been able to get past the BSOD screen that comes in immediately after exiting the BIOS boot screen. Any ideas?

To answer both of you, I have not tried that yet. I guess that will come after school. And I can get into BIOS, but I have no earthly idea how to update it. Would I be better off just getting a newer BIOS chip?

Try taking one of the ram sticks out and test for BSOD. If there is one, swap them. If again, they could both be bad. But thats very unlikely.

You download the BIOS update extract / unzip it. Put it on a flash drive. Or put it in a folder on the hdd

Boot into the BIOS find EZ-flash point it to the update / load it / wait for it to finish flashing it. Thats it

Reboot then go back into the BIOS and reconfigure the settings then save them

Alright. Here's an update. I got on it with my dad. We had gone through getting a pretty broad list of BSODS. We've concluded that it is most likely the RAM. Both sticks too. It stuck out because of the error:
ATTEMPT_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY. So as much as I wish it was the OS. Guess not. This sucks...

Had the same issue, sorry to hear that.
