How do I know if my GPU is working?

I just put in a new 2gb EVGA Geforce GTX 750 ti, and I have no idea if it is working correctly. All programs that I have seen to test this are for windows, but I am using Ubuntu 14.04. The only games I have to work with are Postal 2 and TF2, which run OK even without a graphics card.
On a side note, is it possible to play non-Linux games on Linux, 'cause I have like 4. Thanks in advance.

There should be some OpenGL games in your PPA (basically variants of Tux Racer) that you can install and try. They're not exactly pretty, but will give you a works/doesn't work confirmation. Alternatively, there are some free demos on Steam that have Linux builds, e.g. Dying Light - assuming you have a Steam account, you could try one of those?

There's WINE and PlaysOnLinux, but results are variable. Alternatively, there's a Windows VM (via Virtual Box, etc) with hardware pass-through (although you'll need a Windows licence).

oops I accidentally picked the wrong one as the best solution, I haven't even read it yet (I'm sure it's a good solution anyway). It's working now. I went from averaging like 200fps to 1500. Very satisfying :D

There should be a button marked "Unselect Current Solution" on the one you picked - you can just click that (just FYI :)).

As for the issue at hand ... that's a bit beyond my level of knowledge, I'm afraid. I guess the answer involves running the benchmarks (to see if it's working), and poking the logs to see if there's any errors in there (I'm guessing there'll be something under /var/log/ called "nvidia" or something, or it'll be in the system log).

Don't know if this is any help: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/522835/linux/if-you-have-a-problem-please-read-this-first/

Sometimes when you pick an answer as a solution you can't undo it but another person can change it for you. For some reason I have options to unselect the solution and to pick solutions. Maybe, it's jus t a weird glitch but this is the second time this month that this has happened to me. I unselected the Best Solution for you and if someone comes along and offers you a solution to your problem I will select that one for you.
