TRIM and SSD with lots of unused space

I have a 250 GB SSD. Crucial BX100
I have more than 170 GB free.
Is TRIM important?
I am asking because I am considering installing a time machine program called Rollback RX, which might interfere with TRIM.

TRIM is important with SSDs. Without it you'll notice a performance drop over time as it'll have to do extra iop cycles to erase the empty spaces before it can write new data to them. If your backup software is going to be backing up to a different drive (I assume it is?) then it shouldn't matter if TRIM is enabled on the SSD.

Rollback RX makes snapshots and stores them on the same drive. It is not the same as your average backup or imaging software.

I guess the question is: how long does it take a SSD like mine to need Trimming? Maybe I could uninstall Rollback every month or so, run a trimming command, and reinstall it?
Rollback interferes with certain disk processes, such as resizing partitions and other things

If you're thinking it might interfere with the automatic scheduled TRIM your OS does, you can TRIM your drive manually whenever you want. Just right-click on the drive in This PC, choose Properties, click the Tools tab, and click the lower option (I forget the name but might be Optimize). Look for your SSD in the list -- it will tell you the last time it was TRIMmed. Then choose your SSD in the list and click Optimize. That TRIMs the drive.

Edit: Rollback sounds a lot like System Restore. Why not just use that?

it's a lot more comprehensive than system restore. It makes a snapshot of the whole C partition, and restores it to a previous state. And it is really fast and really convenient, much more so than imaging software. I know because I tried it out, but I uninstalled when I heard about the TRIM problem.

But manually running trim won't work. If it blocks trim, which it reportedly does for a lot of people, then even manual trim won't work on a system that is operating inside the Rollback environment. That's what the folks say on Malwaretips and Wilders. There is a lot of discussion about the trim issue over there.

right. that's what the company claims. But the security forums say that this claim was proven false.

EDIT: see this one at wilders
