Hi! My girlfriend got a prebuilt PC a while back that had 2x Radeon HD6770 graphics cards set up in a crossfire configuration with the external crossfire bridge. One card died a year or two ago, and the other one just died. I'm looking into replacing them, and wanted to make sure I didn't get cards that won't work with her mobo. I've looked up the mobo and cards online, and niether of them actually say they support crossfire, so I'm a little confused. The motherboard is an Asus P8Z68-V LE, and I'm thinking about getting 2x Radeon HD6950. Can someone who understands crossfire compatibility a bit better let me know if those cards will work with her motherboard. Thanks, Dan.

Yes it should work, however the second slot on that motherboard is limited to PCIE 4X data speeds, so in effect you are slightly bottle necking the whole Crossfire setup. I think the best thing to do is to get a single GPU like a GTX 960 or a R9 280X and you will actually see better FPS in some games. if you can make it work a single R9 290X or a GTX 970 would be great and consistently beat out the previous crossfire system. Also you will use less power with a single card, and as the 280X , 290X and the GTX 970 all have more than 2GB of VRAM, provided the two 6950s are 2 GB models. so you also get more VRAM which will allow higher settings and better resolutions. the motehrboard will support these newer cards.

Thanks! I thought they would be compatible but wasn't sure - I didn't notice the reduced speeds on the second slot though. Good spot! I'll look into those cards you suggested and pick one out. No need to use two cards when one will do.
