PSU connected to GPU using an 8pin to 2X 6+2 pin cable , need confirmation that this won't blow up!!..

The title of the post exclaims it all. I need to know if this cable is OK to use for my GPU.

I'm using a cable from the PSU manufacturer, but just to double check I need confirmation that the cable is OK to use.

So to clarify, your running a graphics card that requires 2x6+2 pin PCIe power cables, off of a single 8-pin cable split into 2x6+2 via an adapter?

I'd say that is a very bad idea.. but to know for sure Im going to need two things:

1) Your PSU's make and model
2) Your Graphics Card's make and model

The cable I'm using is an 8 pin to a (2x) 6 + 2 pin. The GPU I use only requires a 6 pin PCI-E cable. The computer I'm modifying is my main one, so I can't pull up the specs

Ah ok. In that case, it should be fine. Its still not ideal, but it shouldn't be dangerous.

As I turned it on , after a minute the fans completely stopped, as if the power wasn't feeding through at all

Well, at least it wasnt dangerous!

It would seem to me that because you were using a splitter, instead of a straight up adapter, not enough power was being supplied to the card, and so it shut off.

It's running fine non-stop at the moment, however the fan speed is rather slow. This might also explain why my PC is even more sluggish than my old GPU.
