Graphics Card isn't working

So I just got a new 2GB EVGA Gerforce Gtx 750 ti. I tried to install a driver, but it didn't work at all (I'm on Ubuntu). Then, I went to 'Additional Drivers' and changed it, and it worked when I used Glxgears (I got about 200fps when I first tried it, then it wouldn't work, now I was getting about 1300fps), but it just couldn't play games. I tried Postal 2 and it was extremely laggy, it seemed to be running worse than it was before I even had a graphics card and was relying on my CPU for graphics. When I try to play Team Fortress 2, it's pretty much unplayable. The sound constantly repeats (lik-ik-ik-ik-ik-ik-ik-ik-ik-ik-ik-ik-ike this) and it runs at about .25fps. What is wrong with it?
P.S. The graphics card isn't plugged into my power supply, I don't think it's supposed to because I looked all over the gpu and there's no place to plug it in. I've never installed a GPU, in case you can't tell.

Sounds like you installed just fine. The 750ti doesnt need additional power. I would guess it has something to do with linux drivers. Try this tutorial, it sounds like you installed the ubuntu recommended drivers, although i could be wrong, Im pretty far from an experienced linux user. http://www.binarytides.com/install-nvidia-drivers-ubuntu-14-04/

That's actually the tutorial I used. The driver I selected didn't work so I just used the 'X.org' one, which is what had been selected in the first place.
