My gaming rig has 8 gigs of ram, a beefy GPU, and an Intel i5 4460.

Now, games run awesomely, though FPS for Rust for example has gone down by about 8 since last september.

Opening programs, opening chrome, searching things on the web, just loading things is a pain in the arse.

At times my ram use can go to 94 percent because of "Steam Client Bootstapper"

And when I open a folder it takes about 5 seconds for the image labels for files to load.

Any cleaning software or something?

What are you doing with regards to Windows 10 .... has it ?

a) Downloaded all the Win 10 stuff ?
b) You have blocked all that stuff ?
c) You have no idea ?

WU has been installing the telemetry functions of Windows 10 into Windows 7 and 8 and some users have reported sluggishness which they attribute to this. I've blocked that stuff so not in a position to troubleshoot if that's the case.

Many Chrome user shave reported memory leaks over the years ... does it get any better after you reboot ?

Howz ya storage, anything over 85% full ?

What size paging file ? Where is paging and temp files ? Multiple drives / partitions ?

In task manager, click on CPU columns so whatever is using most cycles is on top... what are the big users ? repeat for RAM .. repeat for I/O

Sort boot drive files by largest 1st ... look at big stuff.

Delete any *.dmp files..... delete temp files. Use Windows Disk Cleaner or CCleaner to get rid of junk on disk.

to block windows 10 remove every windows update that says update for microsoft windows and not security update for microsoft windows with exception to these KB updates: #3124263, #313343, #3124200, #3116900, #3116098, #3122947, #3120677, #3124262.
all the others have to do with upgrading to windows 10 except for a few which you will have to click on the more information link to the right after selecting it for removal.

the non security updates i listed above have to do with updates time zone changes, currency changes and language support
