Usually your gpu matters more than your cpu in MOST games.

Try not to use software for overclocking, it is best to use the bios to change multipliers voltages etc. Then stress test it with a program x264 real bench etc.
Is there a need for the overclock ?

I only use Intel XTU when I'm stress testing for stability. It's very similar to AMD Overdrive in a sense that the dials are almost all the same. I recommend overclocking from the bios and not through software because of the potential risk of overvolting the CPU.
