Hi,

I'm beginning to experience some bottlenecking with the AMD FX9590, which has shown up after recently purchasing an 980TI.

With my primary usage being 1080p gaming and 4k video rendering for my job, I was wondering if there are any reasonable Intel CPU upgrades to boost my performance and provide a smoother gaming experience.

My current system is:
MSI GTX 980TI
AMD FX 9590 Black Edition
16GB RAM @1800mhz (Patriot Viper 3 8GB x2)
MSI GTX 980TI
Corsair RM 850w PSU
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD7

Solution
Yep, as your main usage is gaming and rendering, I would suggest going for the X99 platform.

5820k is the best in terms of price to performance on this platform, its a 6 core / 12 thread cpu, so you will see a big improvement in single and multithreaded processes, its also more than sufficient for gaming, if you have a high enough budget then the 5960x (8core / 16 thread) will increase productivity even further. However, this platform runs DDR4 memory, so you would have to replace your current ram as well.

Brilliant, thank you. I'm looking into the 5820k now.

Just as a point of curiosity, I heard about the 6700k - is that worth any consideration?

The 6700k is the newest chip, but its on the regular platform, which means its still a quad core. Its a great cpu for gaming, but I would recommend the 5820k and X99 platform (which runs the 6-8 core 12-16thread chips) for your rendering work.

Got a little confused earlier - will both the 5820 and 5860 require a ram upgrade to a DDR4 kit, or just the 5860?
