I think I flashed my motherboard with the wrong Bios

So, I was having problems with my computer BSOD;ing when rendering videos in Sony Vegas Pro, or Livestreaming while playing a game, so i started searching for solutions, and one solution was to flash the bios.

so I proceeded to try this... though Asus doesn't seem to be too friendly in helping you find bios download for your motherboards... anyways, eventually I found this.. https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/RAMPAGE_IV_BLACK_EDITION/HelpDesk_Download/

I figured this was the right place, it was for Asus Rampage 4, however not sure if its the right version for my motherboard..

My motherboard is: ASUS Rampage IV (Asustek) Black Edition X79

currently, I can still get to the bios (so it isn't bricked), but i can't get to windows, every time it tries to get to windows it freezes, every time it tries to do an automatic repair it freezes...

I'm at a loss on what to do, I mean, since my computer can still get to bios, the simplest solution would be to flash the right drivers for my computer, I just need to find the right place to download the right drivers, assuming I didn't flash my motherboard with the right bios in the first place.. which I'm hoping I didn't, cus otherwise I don't know what's wrong...

It`s obviously the first time you have done a bios firmware upgrade.
These days it`s quiet hard to brick the bios of your motherboard because a lot of checks are done before the flashing of the bios can be done.

In most cases you are prevented from flashing if there is anything wrong with the new bios firmware flash.

In any case even though it seems pretty automatic and a lot easier to flash a bios with the Asus flash back feature on most boards or direct upgrade through the bios options to up grade the bios it`s self.

After each new bios firmware flash is performed the motherboard bios must be reset back to factory defaults via the factory reset pins found on your motherboard.

This is done to complete the last part of the firmware...

Once you have done this you need to change all of your settings back to what they were set to, like the first day you installed it or powered it up.

In respect to when windows os was installed.

1. Boot devices and there order of booting.

2. The interface mode your Sata ports were set to: Sata, Ahci, Ide, or Raid mode.

3. Your video adapter if the board has on board video will of defaulted back to that.

So you must change the default video adapter to initialize first to Pci-e mode or Peg mode.
If you have a Pci-e graphics card placed in the Pci-e slot of your motherboard.

4.Cms mode should also be enabled, Legacy/Uefi.

5.Detect usb legacy devices.

6. Audio type selection output for rear and front audio ports.

7.On board Ethernet adapters of the motherboard set to enabled.

When the system gets to the Windows loading logo, and or freezes before windows loads.
It is because the driver device for the Sata interface is loaded.
So there is a difference set in the bios of the Sata port mode selected to what it originally set to the day windows was installed on the system.

So you need to go through the Sata modes, once you find the right mode windows should load.

It`s never a case of flashing a new bios and it working straight away unless you perform the procedure above.

back when I had my old gaming rig (which had an AsRock motherboard), all i effectively had to do was flash the bios, and it would work straight out without having to go through all that fancy jazz...

I'll have to do some research on which are the factory reset pins..

I'll have to show this to my IT friend, maybe he can make better sense out of all this than i can, I'll let you know! Thanks for taking the time to write all these instructions!

Well I sent back the unit, and it booted p after they tweaked with the bios, so evidently the Bios was the culprit of not being able to boot up.

in hind sight, its a good thing i needed to upgrade it, and now that they have it, they can :p
