Hey, so i'm deciding to build my first gaming rig and I am putting a decently large amount of money into this build. I was wondering, should I wait for the new Nvidia series or go with the 980ti. I look to be able to play any game at high to max settings with stable frame rate on a 144hz monitor or two. I have other questions as well but this being in the gpu section I think Ill just start with this. (i'm a nvidia fan boy sorry no 380.)

Specs:
Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
Corsair H110i GTX 104.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Asus MAXIMUS VIII HERO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
G.Skill TridentZ Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Asus GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB STRIX Video Card
Corsair Air 540 ATX Mid Tower Case
Corsair 850W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
TP-Link TL-WDN4800 802.11a/b/g/n PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter
Asus VG248QE 144Hz 24.0" Monitor
Corsair Vengeance K70 Wired Gaming Keyboard
Corsair M65 RGB Wired Laser Mouse
Sennheiser HD 598 Headphones

Total cost: 2,400$

I think you should go and buy yourself a 980 ti OCsuch as from gigabyte or asus because they will have more power than the standard ones and cost cheaper than the 1000 series from nvidia.

People probably said the same thing about the 780Ti last generation. The point is that requirements change pretty rapidly. Don't get me wrong. The 780Ti is still a great card but I don't think anyone would call it overkill for 1080p today.

ur right i can't deny that.

6 months wait you guys are funny, we might see the x70 an x 80 in the next 6 mths but the x80ti probably won't drop till like Christmas. .. Maybe not until spring of next year.

Last time around the 970 and 980 dropped first. Took 6 months for titan to release after. Then couple months after that the 980ti

Personally i think nvidia don't want to release their big gun from the get go (so they can profit fron their product better) but at the same time they can't be late with their big pascal as well because of intel KNL. So it will be intetesting on what will nvidia do later

Has the release date even been stated?

I would pick the GTX 980TI simple because of the extra Vram, if you can afford it. The TI version's has always been in high demand and may be easyer to sell if you whant to upgrade later on.

No release date yet. Just q2, so all that means is before the end of june. But again I highly doubt they will drop the titan version first. But even if they did I wouldn't buy that ripoff.

Well, it IS a 6 months wait. The drop in price for the current gen of cards might be worth the wait, but if you want/need a new rig now, there is really no point in waiting 6 months.

If anything nvidia moat likely want to save big Pascal for 2017. But nvidia actually fighting 2 battle with Pascal. One with AMD (for graphic) and one with Intel (for HPC). Intel already releasing their KNL late last year with the performance of 3teraflop of DP which easily twice as fast as nvidia GK110/210 which rated less than 1.5teraflops. If anything nvidia probably don't want AMD to know the details of their big chip even in simple raw compute performance. So that's why it is interesting to see what nvidia will do now.
